Description
Renting the right gear is the safest and most comfortable way to experience the terrain in the Narrows! The Dry Bib Package allows you to make the most of your time in the Narrows by spending less time worrying about the cold and more time taking in the views!
The Dry Bib Package is recommended May through October on cool days. May and October are transitional months and some hikers will be renting the Warm Weather Package. During these months the Warm Weather Package may be sufficient if you don’t get cold easily or will be hiking during the middle of the day. Conditions vary year to year based on the weather and river conditions. Consider reserving the Dry Bib Package if you think you may need it; we can always refund the difference when you arrive if you change your mind!
Here’s what is included in the Dry Bib Package:
- Dry Bib: The Dry Bib is a wader that provides a waterproof barrier between you and the water, allowing you to wear your own dry layers for insulation. The ankle of the Dry Bib has a snug, rubber gasket that prevents water from entering the leg.
- Canyoneering Boots: We rent the Adidas Hydrolace Canyoneering Boots and they are built for the terrain you’ll encounter on your hike! The Virgin River is lined with large, slippery rocks that can shift as you walk over them; think greased bowling balls! The Canyoneering Boots protect your ankles and provide excellent grip even when wet. The exterior of the boot opens wide then velcros together to accommodate a wide range of widths. The boots are not made to be waterproof; your feet will be wet!
- Neoprene Socks: The Canyoneering Boots are made to be worn with Neoprene Socks. Used Socks?? We know it sounds weird but it’s much different than a regular pair of socks. Neoprene is the thick, rubber material that wetsuits are made from. A thin layer of water is allowed to enter the sock where your body can warm it up and insulate against the cold water temperature. Our Neoprene Socks are thoroughly washed and sanitized between each use!
- Wooden Hiking Stick: It’s simple but having a stick while hiking in the Narrows makes a huge difference! During your hike you’ll be constantly crossing the river. The current can be strong in spots so having a sturdy stick to hold onto is extremely helpful! Trekking poles tend to get ruined on this hike so we recommend leaving yours behind and taking a wooden stick! Lightweight poles can easily be bent and the sand can make the mechanisms gritty. One wooden stick is ideal since you’ll often be using your free hand on the canyon wall or boulders.
We do not require sizes in order to book; you’ll want to try on the boots to make sure you have the perfect fit! The Dry Bib Package accommodates ADULT Small-XXL(men’s) in Dry Bibs and up to US size 15(men’s) Canyoneering Boots. All reserved equipment must be picked up by 10am the day of your hike in order to guarantee all sizes available. If you cannot arrive by 10am we generally have plenty of equipment available. Early arrival is necessary on holiday weekends.
Early pick up is available the evening prior to your hike from 4pm until 1-hour prior to closing time (based on availability). All equipment is due back 1-hour prior to closing time.
Waterproof backpacks can be added to any package for an additional $20. This is a great way to make sure your belongings stay completely dry while you hike!
